Serhiy Babak is 17 years old and comes from the village of Vilshany in the Kharkiv region. He is a calm, strong, and very determined young man who, despite the difficult journey of treatment, has not lost faith in the future and continues to pursue his dreams. Serhiy learned of his diagnosis in the summer of 2022—a brain tumor. His life changed dramatically then: instead of the usual teenage routine, he faced hospitals, tests, and complex treatment. That summer, he underwent surgery—a biopsy was taken, and part of the tumor was removed. Starting in the fall of 2022, Serhiy underwent various types of chemotherapy, fighting for his health step by step. After prolonged treatment, in the fall of 2024, the family finally heard the long-awaited word: remission. It was a time of great hope, a chance to return to normal life, studies, and plans for the future. But in the winter of 2026, the disease made itself known again—there was a relapse, and now Serhiy is undergoing another round of chemotherapy. Despite all the challenges, he continues to study at medical college. For Serhiy, education is not just about learning, but an important step toward an independent future. His biggest dream right now is to be healthy, get an education, and live under a peaceful sky. Creativity, which he finds in building things, holds a special place in his life. Serhiy loves building with LEGO—it helps him focus, calm down, and express his creativity. In the small details, he finds order, inspiration, and a sense of control, which is so important during treatment. His special dream is a LEGO set shaped like a motorcycle, because motorcycles are another of Serhiy’s great passions. Serhiy’s story is one of resilience, strength of character, and the ability to never give up, even when the path seems too difficult. He doesn’t dream of anything extraordinary—just to be healthy, to study, to live, and to see a peaceful sky above his head. And it is in this simple dream that his greatest strength lies.
